On the 50th Anniversary of Utah Arts Festival, Salt Lake City’s premier annual arts event chose to host Austin folk-Americana artist, Shakey Graves on Saturday, June 21 on the street adjacent to Library Square in the downtown civic center area. As huge fans of Graves’ since his return to Austin from Los Angeles where he was pursuing an acting career we’ve seen his steady ascent in music.
Last Monday’s Big Freedia show at The Mohawk saw a large crowd despite Austin City Limits Music Festival’s first weekend taking place just prior to the New Orleans Bounce Queen’s date. Freedia is a popular performer with the LGBTQA+ crowd.

Hamerzya (pronounced hammer+z+eye+a) emerged in the Austin music scene in 2015, with Michael J. Pena as drummer and keyboardist and Lisa Marie Perkins on vocals. The self-produced band creates future synth, new wave melodies with brooding ballads, paying homage to the 1980s and Tron video games. On Sunday, September 12 Glass Animals played Austin’s shiny, new Moody Amphitheatre at Waterloo Park. While it wasn’t the first performance The Cosmic Clash has covered at the venue (Gary Clark Jr opening weekend), it was the first time at the venue for this writer.

I first saw Geannie Friedman and her band Semihelix as the opening act at the final Vancerts Sunset Series show this summer. I’d showed up that night just to see Moving Panoramas but got there early so I decided to grab a seat up front and settle in, unsure who or what Semihelix even was.
