Live music preview: Austin’s Wild Child plays Far Out Lounge next week

Austin music fans by now, have heard murmurings from South Austin about Far Out Lounge and Stage which opened earlier this year, due to word of mouth. Or perhaps they read the recently published Austin Chronicle profile on the venue booked by Lawrence Boone of Austin booking company, Covert Curiosity. The upstart local music venue has announced popular local act, Wild Child will play the first ticketed event there on October 24. The indie-pop act led by songwriting team, Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins makes a rare local appearance. From what Boone told us you’re going to want to be there for the surprise opener too. Tickets can be purchased here.

The venue has quickly become a Cosmic Clash favorite due to the sprawling back patio and stage situated under large live oak trees. The owners come with experience, already operating successful University of Texas-area gastropub Hopfield’s. They’ve taken it a notch higher with Far Out Lounge. The space features a full cocktail program,  a pretty damn good food truck and a variety of locally produced beers.

Wild Child was signed to New York label Dualtone after gaining attention for their self-produced debut record, Pillow Talk (2011). If this is any indication of how good the band is, they’re also the rare act that was signed to a label after being spotted by Dualtone A&R Executive, Will McDonald who caught the band at South by Southwest (SXSW).

The group’s latest record, Fools was released in 2017. The album was Wild Child’s most successful to date, peaking at #6 spot on the Billboard US Heatseekers Chart and #23 on the Americana Chart in February of last year. Due to Wilson’s schedule (she has a new project Sir Woman) and the band’s lack of new material, Wild Child has rarely played Austin in the last couple years. Even their Utopiafest Fest appearance last year was not inside the city limits. Fans would be smart to snap up some relatively low-cost tickets while they’re still available.

RSVP and share the event with your friends on Facebook and at Do512 and help spread the word. Use to the Do512 link to enter to win tickets too. Tickets are also available via those same links. This is going to be a fun show. Guaranteed.
