SXSW preview: Flatstock offers unparalleled free fine art show to fans

As a purveyor of good music, The Cosmic Clash rarely discusses visual art as we’re usually busy telling readers about music we love. Fans already know, visual art is a relevant component of the independent music scene that matters to us. Flatstock, the fine art poster show has been present at South by Southwest (SXSW) as long as we can remember. In fact, Flatstock has been around since their first exhibition in San Francisco in 2002. The show features hand-printed and limited-edition poster art by over 50 artists and studios from around the globe for sale – all of whom will be in attendance to interact with visitors directly. The location this year is new as the Austin Convention Center is a pile of rubble at the moment. The new location at Moonlight Exhibit Hall is in the Austin Marriott Downtown (304 E Cesar Chavez St.) on March 13-15, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Flatstock at SXSW 2026 features some of the biggest names in poster art including Dave Kloc, DKNG, Lil Tuffy, Nevermade, Nate Duval, Mercadorama and our good friend Billy Perkins among others with makers and studios from East to West Coast, Mexico and beyond. It’s mind numbing to realize how many truly exceptional artists there are making this timeless, nostalgic art. We personally have show posters of events The Cosmic Clash has produced hanging in our offices to this day.

For fans of show poster art, this show is heaven. Strolling through the exhibition and seeing hundreds of stunning live music posters adverting upcoming performances of the past brings up some great memories for folks like us. Plus there’s more to do than simply wander through the exhibits and buy art. Patrons can also expect a daily lecture series, live print demos, limited release drops, giveaways, and music — along with stickers, patches and other ephemera for purchase.  How folks don’t spend their paychecks at this show we have no idea. We’ve walked out of the ACC in years past with our arms loaded with poster tubes, grinning from ear to ear.

Go buy yourself a beautiful fine print, then frame that bad boy, hang it in your home or office and settle in a comfy chair with a nice drink and gaze. You’ll thank yourself later.
