Live music preview: Austin Psych Fest returns to Far Out May 8 with stacked lineup
Austin Psych Fest returns this Spring on May 8 – May 10 to the Far Out Lounge & Stage, bringing yet another Spring festival edition to South Austin and a stacked three-day lineup. The 3-day festival will feature APF legacy acts and underground picks that showcase yet another year of reverberation appreciation from the Austin homegrown festival. The lineup features acts from all over the world to commemorate its fourth Spring edition since the return to an annual Springtime, one-location, two-stages, no-overlap festival experience. This one is a music fan’s dream format. All tickets can be purchased on the Levitation website.
With the return of Austin Psych Fest in the springtime, Levitation chose to bring the festivities to the massive Far Out Lounge backyard, a beautiful spot on South Congress that allows for all-day layovers and no set overlap. This allows the visual art portion of the festival to shine, with psychedelia-inspired projections on the stages that reach back to the plant life that populates the space courtesy of Play to the Plants, creating a mesmerizing experience. Visual artists will include Mad Alchemy, TV Eye, Slim Reaper, and Attic Space.
Friday, May 8, opens with an explosive night headlined by Oklahoma legends The Flaming Lips. Joining them are dream-pop sensations DIIV, Brooklyn alt-rockers Momma, Texas shoegaze outfit Glare, and Brazilian psych Levitation frequent flyers Boogarins.
Saturday, May 9, leans into the Levitation and Austin Psych Fest classics with The Black Angels performing their landmark debut album Passover for its 20th anniversary. Topping off the bill is garage rock icon Ty Segall, a live rarity with Melody’s Echo Chamber. On the international act front, brooding psych outfit New Candys, and psych funk figureheads Al-Qasar enrich Saturday’s lineup alongside exploding locals Grocery Bag and longtime Austinites Annabelle Chairlegs, rounding out a Levitation Fest mainstay Saturday.
Sunday, May 10, brings modern soul luminaries Thee Sacred Souls, the searing instrumentals of La Lom, Latin soul artist Trish Toledo, psych rock power trio Night Beats, Italian psych warriors Dumbo Gets Mad, Austin local Latin psych powerhouses Money Chicha, and a DJ set from Adrian Quesada of Grupo Fantasma and Black Pumas.
Additionally, a downtown kickoff before the festival and afterparties after each day’s conclusion at Far Out Lounge will be announced later, along with more programming for each day of the fest.
The 2025 edition of Austin Psych Fest included Explosions in the Sky, Dinosaur Jr., Geordie Greep, Darkside, Los Mirlos, and Kim Gordon.
All ticket and lineup information can be found on the Levitation website.
