Live music preview: Meatbodies and The Well to play Antone’s for LEVITATION

This Saturday, October 29 Meatbodies headline Antone’s for LEVITATION. Heavy psych-rock, proto-metal trio The Well from Austin open the show along with up and coming Portland-based garage-psych rockers, Spoon Benders. Limited tickets are still available for this bill which promises to be the kind of hard hitting show fans love to rock out to. There is likely to be a mosh pit and crowd-surfing which will be fun to see in an intimate space like Antone’s.

Meatbodies are led by Chad Ubovich who also plays bass in Ty Segal’s band Fuzz. Segal encouraged Ubovich to record his Meatbodies material, after the band toured in support of Fuzz in 2013, releasing a cassette that sold-out its initial run. The following year, Meatbodies entered the studio with producer, Eric Bauer (Osees, Ty Segal) eventually releasing their debut Meatbodies in 2014.

The band has subsequently released another record, Alice (2017) released on In the Red Records as was their debut. They’ve also released a series of singles, some of which are available via the group’s Bandcamp page.

The Well are perhaps Austin’s best heavy psych-rock act. The band likes to call their brand of music doom-pop. Whatever you call their music, one thing is for sure, it’s really good stuff. The group released their first single in 2012 and dropped their first full-length, Samsara in 2014 after signing to Riding Easy Records.

More from All Music on the band: “Citing a desire “to blend different musical styles as diversified as Joy Division to Blue Cheer”, the band, which consists of Ian Graham, Lisa Alley, and Jason Sullivan, came together in 2012 out of a shared love for extreme music, cult horror films, and dark mysticism.

The Cosmic Clash have been fans of The Well from the beginning. Check the live clip below:

Opening act Spoon Benders hail from the hearty Portland scene that produced Dandy Warhols and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Their debut album Dura Mater was released in 2020. The foursome draws inspiration from legends like The Stooges, Black Sabbath, and LEVITATION headliner, Osees.  Spoon Benders’ roots in the loud, psych-influenced punk rock is perfect for a festival that features Osees on four consecutive nights. If you missed out on Osees tickets this Saturday this bill at Antone’s is a great substitute.

PRO TIP: The Cosmic Clash is running a contest on Instagram to win a pair of tickets to the show, plus a TCC logo shirt and swag. Only one winner will be chosen at random. If you enter, be sure to check your Instagram private messages the day before the show (Oct 28) when a winner will be chosen. Or just grab tickets here and guarantee entry into the best heavy psych lineup of an incredible Austin music festival we’re proud to be a part of.
