LEVITATION to relaunch Halloween weekend in downtown Austin
Psychedelic rock festival, LEVITATION founded by members of The Black Angels has announced dates for 2021, October 28-31 in downtown Austin. Like the 2019 edition, the festival will take place in venues around and near the Red River Cultural District and Austin’s East side. Stubb’s, Mohawk, Empire, Hotel Vegas, Central Presbyterian Church and more will host shows during Halloween weekend, adding a layer of weirdness to a beloved local festival that already puts out a distinctly strange and wonderful vibe. LEVITATION and The Reverberation Appreciation Society put out this statement to announce this year’s dates:
“We’re excited to see live music coming back, and looking forward to seeing everyone in Austin for another epic weekend of music and art in Austin, Texas. As shows and events come back to our beloved venues and art spaces, safety procedures will continue to evolve and we will work with our venues and health officials to offer clear guidelines for attendees.
Let’s all do our part to bring back live music stronger than ever. It’s gonna be Halloween weekend, so masks are encouraged regardless 🙂

LEVITATION returned to its original venue-based festival format in 2018 following a disastrous 2017 event when show site, Carson Creek Ranch was evacuated due to a dangerous storm the evening before the festival was set to begin. Shows were hastily re-booked into clubs around Austin.
The 2018 and 2019 editions resulted in sold-out festivals both years. Frankly, the flexibility and convenience of hopping from venue to venue in and around downtown Austin beats trudging around a destination festival site. Real bathrooms instead of port-a-potties, real restaurants instead of festival fare and the ease of coming and going as you please are all appealing aspects of LEVITATION’s downtown Austin, venue-based format. We’re looking forward to another stellar festival.
Here at The Cosmic Clash we’re hoping for a few massive acts for the upcoming lineup announcement this summer. Both Tame Impala and King Gizzard and Lizard Wizard have performed at LEVITATION and are currently on world tour. We’d love to see them return. Other acts we’d like to see this year:
