Single Premiere: Primo the Alien presents Do It Again

Electronic artist, Primo the Alien has announced her latest single, “Do It Again.” The new song debuts today on all digital platforms via Spaceflight Records. Primo aka Laura Lee Bishop is one of Austin’s most popular independent, electronic acts, garnering over 32,000 listeners a month on Spotify. With this single and accompanying video, Bishop set out to humanize her alter ego Primo with this track. Perhaps she was also making an attempt to acknowledge the need to normalize things amid the chaos and isolating effects of the worldwide pandemic?

What we do know is Primo has worked her musical alchemy to fantastic result once more, this time evoking a wave of nostalgia with her falsetto vocal delivery reminiscent of disco and soul acts of the 70s) amid a decidedly modern dance beat while managing to update the vibes for 2021 with futuristic electronic effects that fuse the past with the present. The track manages to evoke a light-hearted feel while conveying a more somber tone underneath the pop-oriented lyrics. The song is really about perseverance which we all need in spades after the cataclysmic events of the past year. Primo wrote the track and co-produced with local mix engineer, Taylor J. Webb.

The  video begins with a shot of Bishop as a child, listening as her mother as she sweetly sings a capella to her before the scene transitions into her new song. The clip was made as a tribute to Bishop’s parents, showing the singer in ordinary, everyday situations using found footage of the singer being a sister, daughter, wife and friend. The mosaic of various personal home film clips lends an extra dose of sentimentality to the story. The juxtaposition of futuristic sounds with a video comprised of home movie segments evokes the kind of good feeling that is hard to define but we know we like it.
