Austin welcomes progressive new grass jam band The String Cheese Incident and friends back to Texas for the first annual Waterloo Music Festival. September 7-9th at the beautiful Carson Creek Ranch which sits on the banks of the Colorado River near downtown Austin, will be occupied by veteran national act jam bands as well as local acts to help keep the party going.

The String Cheese Incident have been a mainstay in the jam band community for over 20 years encompassing bluegrass, folk, progressive rock, funk, calypso and psychedelia sounds. String Cheese will take the reins each evening of the festival along with late-night performances on the Relix stage by New York based prog-rock, hip-hop and jazz foursome Tauk (Friday), Funk/Jazz/Afrobeat outfit The Motet from Denver, CO (Saturday) and, funky house, psychedelic locals Boombox (Sunday). Other notable acts include Oteil & Friends, Perpetual Groove, Big Something, Marco Benevento as well as locals Hard Proof and Deadeye.

We are excited to see the Texas debut of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead featuring Ween bassist Dave Dreiwitz as well as Scott Metzger of Phil and Friends. Easy Star All-Stars will be performing their 2003 dub step rendition of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, cleverly named “Dub Side of the Moon” in its entirety, which has remained on Billboard Reggae Charts since it’s 2003 release. Pecan tree lined campgrounds, delicious food vendors and silent discos just add icing to the cake to ensure this festival is here to stay for the long haul.

Three day passes as well as single day wristbands are still available at the festival website. If you’re into roughing it while you party all night with likeminded music fans, choose the camping option. The festival even has luxury glamping options  or pre-paid standard tents and cots that they’ll pitch and set-up for you while you enjoy the festivities.
