Live music preview: Halloween Freakend by Levitation is coming to Far Out Lounge

Levitation and Resound Presents have teamed up again for a Halloween weekend two-day festival in South Austin. The mini-fest will take place at The Far Out Lounge & Stage on October 31 and November 1, the current site of the Spring edition of Austin Psych Fest. The Freakend lineup kicks off on Halloween night with Bitchin Bajas, J’Cuuzi, Stereolab, Black Lips, and Viagra Boys arriving for their first Austin headlining excursion.

Live music photos: Hot Summer Nights featured Andrew Cashen, Semihelix, Portrayal of Guilt and more

The Red River Cultural District’s cover-free Hot Summer Nights event took place last weekend in venues all over the downtown neighborhood July 24-26. Nearly 150 primarily Austin-area artists took to the stage at Mohawk, 13th Floor, Elysium, Chess Club and a dozen other RRCD venues. This is the eighth year the neighborhood organization has organized the event which spawned from its original sister event, Free Week which takes place the first week of January each year. Resound Presents founder, Graham Williams is credited with originating that event while he was working as a talent booker at the original Emo’s on Red River and Sixth Street. featured in this photo story is Andrew Cashen and Disciples of Creation, shoegaze/psych rockers, Queen Serene, Pearl Z, Sexpop, Mujeres Podridas, Stop Motion Orchestra, Portrayal of Guilt, Semihelix and lots more.

Video Premiere: The Cuckoos new single I’ll Be Ur Tramp

In what now feels like ancient history, this past January, The Cuckoos put on a show at one of Austin’s most intimate venues, Cheer Up Charlie’s. On June 29, the band dropped a new single and video. Album Review: Trinidad from Sweet Spirit signals new approach

Like many bands, Austin’s Sweet Spirit has seen a number of iterations. The band has swelled and contracted in size over the years. The current (smaller) formation lends itself to a different direction with Trinidad that is still glam rock we know and love, but a more spare sound emerges.
