Live music preview: Six buzz bands to see at ACL Festival 2024 Weekend One

Each year when the lineup for Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL Festival) drops, reactions to the headliners listed often dominate the online discussion that follows but logically with nearly 80 acts on the bill each weekend, there are bound to be buzz bands to see. Weekend One has quite a few artists that made our list of acts to watch perform. We narrowed that list down further to two recommendations per day. Also included are the remaining bands that we took note of when examining the exhaustive roster which includes newbie pop sensation, Chappell Roan whose set got moved from Saturday to Sunday in order to move her performance to the largest stage at the festival, Amex.

Live music review: Kendrick Lamar shocks ACL Festival with 65-minute delay, abbreviated 31-minute set 

Compton’s Kendrick Lamar is billed as the headliner for each Friday of the 2023 Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL Festival), a big draw for most attendees at Zilker Park on Friday night. Upon approaching the stage, fans were told on the American Express Stage’s screens that Lamar’s set would be delayed due to “Plane Issues.”

Live music review: The best shows we saw at ACL Festival 2023 weekend one on Friday

We’re not here to talk about the weather though, we’re ready to discuss the best shows we saw at ACL Festival, weekend one on Friday. Standout performances were turned in by The Mars Volta, Alanis Morrisette, Foo Fighters, The Breeders and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to name a few. And yeah, those artists represent much of what was good about American music during the 1990s making the entire festival feel like a giant throwback to that era. Even the popular fashions at the festival reflected a late 80s and 90s influence.

Last Thursday at BMI’s Howdy Texas extravaganza leading into weekend two of Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL Fest), venue host, Yeti Flagship store had a lyrical sharpshooter ready to give a playful greeting to Texas locals and visitors in Austin’s music capitol. Festival Review: Iconic artists mix with future stars at Austin City Limits Festival

Last weekend’s Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL Fest) featured legacy acts Paul McCartney, David Byrne and Metallica along with upcoming stars, Janelle Monae, St. Vincent and Austin’s own Shakey Graves. We’re partial to female-fronted acts and we’ll take this opportunity to point out it was the many talented female fronted acts along with legends Sir Paul and Byrne who garnered the most attention over the three-day event held at Austin’s Zilker Park.
