Live music review: Dinosaur Jr at ACL Live rocked it loud

Dinosaur Jr played Austin’s ACL Live Moody theater this past Sunday, a rescheduled appearance originally booked for late 2021. The show was rescheduled as a result of the live music thorn in the flesh, COVID. A relatively unknown, Ryley Walker opened the show with a somewhat offsetting style to Dinosaur Jr’s wall of sonic sludge.

Live music review: Nine Inch Nails headlined debut Primavera Sound L.A.

Nine Inch Nails headlined day two of Primavera Sound L.A. delivering a trademark performance at the inaugural U.S. version of the highly regarded Spanish music festival that takes place each Spring in Barcelona. Bandleader, Trent Reznor mentioned that fact while on stage Saturday evening during his set at L.A. State Historic Park near downtown Los Angeles.

Live music review: The Black Angels opened new 13th Floor location with album release show

The Black Angels latest recording, Wilderness Of Mirrors (released Friday), was celebrated by the band with an intimate gathering at the new The 13th Floor Bar location, now on Red River near 8th in the Red River District. Announcement of the show and available tickets happened only a week ago.  Within a short amount of time the sub-200 capacity venue was sold out.

Live music review: Primavera Sound L.A. saw Lorde own main stage, Darkside closed day one

Friday’s inaugural day one of Primavera Sound L.A. at L.A. Historic State Park saw Lorde own the main stage with fans crowding the area following Mitski’s heavily attended set on the Tecate Alta stage. Psych-synth rockers Darkside closed the night with a spellbinding performance, sending euphoric fans off into the evening buzzing with palpable energy.

Live music review: Courtney Barnett and Here and There Festival at ACL Live

This past Thursday evening in Austin, found the Courtney Barnett curated, Here and There Festival planting it’s all female fronted bands version of the revolving lineup on the ACL Live Moody stage. While the constantly changing touring artists has featured the likes of Wet Leg, Fred Armisen, Lucy Dacus, Snail Mail, Japanese Breakfast, Bartees Strange, just to name a few of the many diverse artists making some of the most impactful music today, Austin fans were treated to support acts Ethel Cain and Indigo Souza on this night as they were warmed up the audience for the main act, Melbourne’s Courtney Barnett.

Live music review: Japan’s Boris destroyed Empire Garage, Megafauna played Chess Club after show

Guitar-heavy noise rockers, Boris visited Empire Garage August 25 for a stop on their Heavy Rock Breakfast tour with support from Philadelphia’s Nothing. Needless to say, it was an evening of loudness that fans felt in their organs at various points during the intense, 15-song set headliners Boris delivered.
