Live music review: An impressive night of modern Texas rock at Hole in the Wall

On Saturday, July 30, folks gathered at picnic tables on the outdoor patio at the legendary Hole in the Wall, nestled on UT’s Drag, on Guadalupe.  Many of the patrons were there to check out at least one of the four bands set to play on that warm, slightly-breezy night; Sons of Kitsch, Kyote Radio and Brian Wolff.

Video premiere: Austin synth duo Hamerzya released Ethereal Ones clip today

Hamerzya (pronounced hammer+z+eye+a) emerged in the Austin music scene in 2015, with Michael J. Pena as drummer and keyboardist and Lisa Marie Perkins on vocals. The self-produced band creates future synth, new wave melodies with brooding ballads, paying homage to the 1980s and Tron video games. Today we’re introducing the premiere of the duo’s new video, “Etheral Ones.”

Live music review: Female fronted bands put “Power” in Empowerment Fest

Empowerment Fest, sponsored by local label Dissent Records and benefiting Girls Rock Austin, the event promised a fine sampler of local music spanning multiple genres. As a music-loving feminist, how could I resist? So last Saturday I donned my Jackie Venson tank top, grabbed my eternally skeptical Gen Z daughter, and headed out to Far Out Lounge.
