Live music review: Asleep at the Wheel 50th Anniversary featured George Strait

Friday evening Austin Western Swing legend, Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel (AATW) celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the hallowed Texas band that has won nine Grammy awards and put out over 20 albums, charting 21 singles on the Billboard country charts since forming. It was a special evening of music that felt like the authentic Texas country crowd were putting their stamp of approval on the beautiful new Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park.

Live music preview: Marcus Rezak returns to Austin with Truth in Sound

Denver-based guitarist, Marcus Rezak returns to Austin this evening in support of his second EP, Truth in Sound at Empire Control Room and Garage with percussionist, Nikki Glaspie of Nth Power on drums, Chantil Dukart on keys and Tim Philpot on bass. EP features Russ Lawton, Ray Paczkowski, and the late Tony Markellis of Trey Anastasio Band and Kalyan Pathak on percussion and tabla. Rezak appears at Rancho Relaxo Saturday evening with his high-octane Grateful Dead cover band, Shred is Dead to celebrate Jerry Garcia’s birthday with the Rancho crew to complete the one-two, Austin punch.
