Story: Reed Brownlow & Greg Ackerman

Last month Austin rock and roll outfit Graveltooth, featuring former members of The Wheeler Brothers, The Madisons and Moving Matter took the stage at South Congress Avenue live music mainstay, Continental Club to a good-sized crowd for a mid-week, midnight set time. Right out of the gate, the group proved whether it be two or two hundred fans, that they were going to deliver a good time for fans. Brothers Evan and Dustin Bozarth are capable musicians joined by Curtis Pierce, Cameron Cummings and Keith Laudieri to form a rock and roll act with a hint of psychedelia thrown in.

Graveltooth made their latest full-length album, Can’t Slow Down with the help of prolific Austin record producer,  Chris “Frenchie” Smith at his The Bubble studio. The set list contained ten new songs from the new material with “Every Good Woman” being the only track missing from the set list. Front men, Pierce and Cummings played off one another with the simplistic ease of two band members in complete harmony with one another. Backed by Dustin Bozarth’s well-tuned keys (and timely solos), along with the rhythm section  of Laudieri (drums) and Evan Bozarth (bass) the band convincingly played like they’ve been together for far longer than the three years or so since they formed.

The quintet introduced a new cover song, The Beatles tune “Get Back” and the crowd showed its appreciation for their version of the classic rock song. For two hours, Graveltooth rocked the Continental stage displaying the kind of chops that lead to becoming one of Austin’s next breakout acts. Next time you see the band announce a new date and you want some true blue, good old-fashioned, American rock n roll, go see Graveltooth. The band’s next date is September 14 at One-2-One Bar. Get a ticket for the show. You won’t leave disappointed. Maybe you’ll be a little sore from dancing, but that’s a good problem to have. Right?!
