Interview: Mike Cosmic talks with Bonnie Bloomgarden of Death Valley Girls at LEVITATION
When we heard Death Valley Girls were on the bill at LEVITATION, Mike Cosmic immediately reached out to Bonnie Bloomgarden, founder and soul of the Los Angeles-based band that had become a Cosmic Clash favorite years ago. Bloomgarden apparently replied right away, letting our founder know their founder couldn’t wait to sit down and talk DVG music with us. The interview we recorded runs at just under ten minutes which is enough time to realize Bloomgarden is the sweetest, witchy woman you’ll ever meet.
Prior to their performance at the now legendary Mohawk on Red River with Austin’s A Giant Dog, Mike Cosmic and Bloomgarden met up in the green room upstairs at the venue. The two discussed Death Valley Girls’ latest record, touring, their unusual songwriting process and even teased a new record which is apparently slated to hit stores February 24 where ever you buy music. As much as we loved the last album, you can likely guess we’re anxiously awaiting their newest wax baby, Islands in the Sky.
Besides the new album, the pair discussed how the singer approaches her songwriting process, break down a couple tracks on 2020’s Under the Spell of Joy and their rather intense touring schedule. If you didn’t jump to the link to pre-order the new album already, here’s how to get it before everyone else does.
Then Bloomgarden and her band headed onto the Mohawk stage that evening where the group slayed LEVITATION fans with a bombastic set that matched the high energy of their contemporaries, Sabrina Ellis and A Giant Dog.
