Song review: Psychic Love Child ascends with single, “Golden Tongues”

Dallas-Fort Worth-based quintet, Psychic Love Child, released their latest single in April, “Golden Tongues.” The five-minute throwback tune is the psych-rock band’s fifth single release in just over a year.

Psychic Love Child, consisting of Marcos Mateo (vocals), Matthew Posey (drums), Parker Hernandez (guitar/vox), Masen Yaro (bass/guitar), and Justin Zaweski (keys/guitar/vox) formulate musical mosaics, rich with textures and sounds reminiscent of Tame Impala off shoot, Pond or certain King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard genre bends.

The band’s sound seems at its most complex and succinct with the release of “Golden Tongues.” The band has worked on the track for roughly two years. While working on other tracks, the band revisited and revised “Golden Tongues”, making it one their older songs, but also one of their most elaborate.

In 2020, the track, “Melted Mirrors” delivered synth-driven psychosis, accompanied with uncompromising guitar variation. “Are You There” brought listeners a more raw and upbeat sensation in the same year, as did “Back Again.” Kicking off with soft synthesizer and guitar strums, the five-minute-long Golden Tongues evolves into a Neo-psychedelic carousel of hard-hitting, emphatic enchantments.

Psychic Love Child does not relent with regard to exploration within a track, which is part of their allure.  Raw energy – conveyed with a sense of curiosity as to how each track will evolve,  adding to the ascending spectacle of masterful musicianship that is Psychic Love Child.    .

The band is currently writing and recording their upcoming debut LP, while doing rare live sets for those lucky enough to witness. You can catch Psychic Love Child next at Native Hostel this Sunday, June 13 for Vancerts’ Sunset Saturday series event that was postponed from June 5 to this weekend. Get tickets here.
