Live music preview: My Cruddy Valentine at Far Out Lounge Feb 14
Valentine’s Day can be a drag. If you’re in a relationship, you feel obligated to get your partner candy, cards, flowers, dinner, the whole ball of wax. If you’re not hanging out with anyone during the holiday then it can be a source of stress or at least mildly annoying. The Cosmic Clash along with Dad Presents and Covert Curiosity are taking care of all those details for you this year by booking and planning My Cruddy Valentine, a fun evening of live music, performance art and vendors February 14 at Far Out Lounge and Stage.
Austin rockers Megafauna will deliver their typically stellar guitar-driven show featuring songs from their latest album, Ghost Coast. The album featured on our list of Best Austin Albums of 2019. Also appearing on the bill, Cosmic Clash favorites The Sour Notes, Goat and Your Mom, Color Candy and more. We’ll have a special performance by The Duchess of Danger, Fifi Switchblade. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $7.
Venue host The Far Out Lounge is up for best new live music venue at the Austin Chronicle Music Awards that take place next month. The upstart South Austin venue has flourished under the booking direction of Lawrence Boone (Covert Curiosity) and owners Pedro Carvalho and Bay Anthon. With live music most nights, The Far Out Lounge has evolved into a premier indoor/outdoor venue with a spacious backyard, a revamped stage, new PA and lighting and there’s even a great food truck out back. The indoor space features a large bar, a lounge area and indoor stage. The best part is the venue has old South Austin ambiance in spades. It may be a little bit south of downtown but that’s also it’s appeal. Easy parking and a relaxed, old Austin atmosphere makes it a worthwhile place to catch a show or just stop in for a drink.
Besides the aforementioned Megafauna and that delicious new material, the bill is solidly entertaining with The Cosmic Clash alumni The Sour Notes joining us once again. Jared Paul Boulanger’s band has been playing Austin venues since 2008, playing Boulanger’s brand of off-kilter indie rock. The genesis of the band was the founder’s own writings, notes and music kept in his Moleskine notebook, which he called his sour notes. Eventually the Houston resident made his way to Austin and formed a full band. We’re stoked The Sour Notes will be on a another bill with us.
Punk and metal influenced GOAT and Your MOM brings a dangerous vibe to the evening. The Austin quintet boasts being, “Baddest Mother Fucker Since David Allan Coe!” if that gives you any idea what to expect. The group comes with a sizable fan base on social media and some raucous tunes. We’re ready to rock with (ahem) GOAT and Your MOM.
Voidstrider, Color Candy and Ole Creepy round out the bill. Take the stress out of Valentine’s Day Austin. RSVP via Facebook to join the fun next Friday at Far Out Lounge.
