Live music review: Wand delivered spellbinding magic at Mohawk Austin

While the outdoor stage was booked with the likes of Black Joe Lewis and Emily Wolfe, The smaller, more intimate indoor venue was blessed with the psychedelic, ultra-creative musical stylings of the Los Angeles-based five-piece, Wand.

Live music review: Tacocat, Paranoyds brought power-packed shows to Barracuda

Meanwhile, the indoor stage at Barracuda offered a relentlessly stacked show featuring Tacocat with support from L.A.’s Paranoyds and Cosmic Chaos. Three bands that know how to attack a crowd like an angry swarm of Texas mosquitoes.

Live music preview: Luscious Heaven Shoegaze show and The Nothing Song label launch

There are probably more small, independent, local record labels in Austin than you’d expect. That fact isn’t stopping The Nothing Song owner, Trish Connelly from launching her own label on 7″ featuring talented newcomers, Blushing. Album review: The Bright Light Social Hour released first new music in three years Friday

After covering The Bright Light Social Hour for nearly a decade, since their debut album The Bright Light Social Hour dropped, I can honestly say I couldn’t be more excited for the group. Brothers Evan and Dustin Bozarth are capable musicians joined by Curtis Pierce, Cameron Cummings and Keith Laudieri to form a rock and roll act with a hint of psychedelia thrown in.

Live music review: Brit Floyd exceeded expectations at ACL Live last week

Tribute bands are a strange phenomena. Of course we love Pink Floyd. Their pioneering psych-rock musical style pairs well with our own home-bred original Cosmic Cowboy, Roxy Erickson. But a group of talented musicians recreating Floyd’s Division Bell tour like Brit Floyd? Despite the success of the group which tours worldwide, we had our doubts about how the show would play out. In retrospect, our hesitation was unwarranted. The show was a smashing success. The music, lights and visuals were spectacular. As were the musicians who performed. If you have the chance to catch this production when it rolls through your town, you should. It’s worth the ticket price.
