Live Music Preview: Austin Music Awards at Antone’s will benefit SIMS Foundation

The 42nd annual Austin Music Awards will take place at Antone’s Nightclub on Sunday, February 25, in downtown Austin. The Austin Chronicle event will feature talent from a massive array of genres from across the local music scene. The awards are chosen by 15,000 music fans in Austin and beyond, all of which will be revealed in the February 23 issue of The Austin Chronicle, with winners being celebrated at the ceremony the following Sunday. On top of Austin music artists, the award show will also feature nominees for categories like Best Music Residency, Best Live Music Venue, Best Sound Engineer, Best Local Music Festival, and more.  100% of proceeds directly benefit the SIMS Foundation to support mental health and substance use recovery services and programs for musicians, music industry professionals, and their dependent family members.

Presented by CapMetro, the ceremony will celebrate Austin’s live music community with performances from winners, nominees, and special guests. Performers will include Austin heavy hitters DAIISTAR, Pussy Gillette, and S.L. Houser while also featuring music scene legends such as famed musician and producer Walker Lukens with his acclaimed compilation LP, Texas Wild featuring Ben Kweller, Sabrina Ellis, Kalu James, Corey Baum, Uncle Roy & Spice, and more to accompany the award-winning producer for the presentation of his Austin Music Award-nominated release.

The evening’s headliners showed formidable success in the Austin scene in 2023. Noise-pop outfit Daiistar will headline the event, fresh off their debut record and signing to Fuzz Club Records last year. Pussy Gillette will also take the stage at the AMA’s show and will come with the pronounced, abrasive delivery by badass front woman and bassist Masani Negloria. After seeing the band’s set at the annual Wizard Rodeo, Pussy Gilette has the reputation to play a kickass show anytime, anywhere. Spaceflight Records Signee S.L. Houser will also perform as one of the AMA headliners, fresh off her critically acclaimed EP, Hibiscus

With a long list of nominees that audiences voted on for the AMAs, only one from each category will be chosen, and the competition is steep. With artists like Being Dead, Grocery Bag, A Giant Dog, Die Spitz, and evening headliner DAIISTAR being nominees for the evening’s award show, a plethora of talent is on the table to receive the yearly accolades. Tickets are $20 and can be found here.

Austin Chronicle has also promised several surprise guests to be revealed on the awards night. Run, don’t walk. Get your tickets as they’ll go fast in the days leading up to the event.
