Live music preview: Final Club X show at 13th Floor with Montaz, Galactic Protector, Pagoto and Queen Serene

What’s that you’re saying? You don’t go out on (gasp!) a school night? Absurd, this is Austin after all where some of the best local events take place on not the last, but first day of the week. The Final Club X show presented by Mas Music, of their month long residency at 13th Floor Bar comes to a close tomorrow with a lineup that on the surface looks unassuming until you know that Pagoto features Ellie English of L.A. Witch. Add Brian Ritchie of The Sword presenting his band Galactic Protector and headliner, Montaz with DJ sets from Queen Serene and the sum is an impressive lineup for a “school night.”

While we all know in the land of perpetual (wanna be) youth, live music is what keeps us young. The garage punk duo, Montaz are based in Laredo, Texas. We’re looking forward to checking out this crunchy-sounding two-piece. Who tell Facebook visitors: “[We’re] 2 happy demons residing in Texas making music in celebration of destruction.”
How can that not be good?

The hardcore rock of Pagoto featuring drums by L.A. Witch member Ellie English is not to be missed. The power trio play guttural toms and fierce guitars while their vocalist wails into the mic. If visceral describes the music you like, you’ll dig this band. Club X promises to lead you down the road to catharsis with this new act they’re putting on the 13th Floor stage tomorrow.

Galactic Protector is a Spaceflight Records artist. Bassist and music producer for acclaimed Austin metal group, The Sword, Brian Ritchie is responsible for this project. We’re digging the atmospheric sounds that somehow remind us of the soundtrack from German film, “Run Lola Run.”. We know that description sounds a bit esoteric but that’s the best way we can describe the music.  In any case, we’re intrigued with see this band perform with a light show from our friends at European Sun.

More on GP from Spaceflight Records, “Accomplished musician / producer Bryan Richie, bassist for American rock band The Sword, has announced a new solo project under the pseudonym Galactic Protector. Overflowing with bright, synthesizer melodies and blissful, melancholic IDM, the 15 track effort plays out like electronic dream pop songs, hovering between ambient introspection and more active synth pop and post-rock elements.
