Live music review: Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum played Fusebox Festival
Distribution Hall, on East 4th Street, was the venue at which Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum performed as part of the Fusebox Festival last Saturday night in Austin.
By 10 p.m., the venue was packed full of patrons, enjoying the visual and sonic art displays in the center hall, the crowded, yet low-key scene on the amply-spaced patio, and in the performance room of the site. It was an hour before Princess Goes would take the stage, and a sizable crowd already amassed close to the stage to claim a prime position for the upcoming performance.
At approximately 11 p.m., front man, Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under, Dexter, and Lazarus), Keyboardist, Matt Katz-Bohen (Blondie), and Peter Yanowitz (The Wallflowers), the band’s drummer, took the stage and the crowd erupted into cheers and applause.
Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum wasted no time kicking things off as Hall introduced the band, and launched into the unrelenting opening number, “Vicious.”
With an elaborate backdrop, illuminated with laser effects and a plethora of visual displays, the spectacle of the performance paired perfectly with Hall’s vocal delivery, and the electronic, synth transmissions that reverberated through Distribution Hall.
As the band played on, Hall, sporting dark coveralls and colorful crocs, continued to display his vocal range, as Katz-Bohen and Yanowitz maintained the tempo, drowning the crowd in mesmerizing melodies.
The trio played an approximately one hour set, and sounded just as tight live as on their studio recordings.
