Live music preview: Fest-sized bill by Indy Brewing benefits SIMS this weekend
This weekend, May 29-30, Independence Brewing (Indy Brewing) is hosting live, local music from some heavy Austin hitters at the brewery this weekend. The Bright Light Social Hour, live visual artist and art-rocker, Peelander Yellow, Trouble in the Streets, Thor and Friends (members of Swans), Western Youth featuring Graham Webber, DJ Curse Mackey (My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult) and more will perform. Show hours this weekend are 4 p.m. – midnight and 11 p.m. respectively. Tickets, full bill and more information is online now, including VIP packages and private table options. The event benefits mental health org. SIMS Foundation.
Besides the musical goodness that lies within longtime SIMS Foundation supporters, The Bright Light Social Hour, the non-profit musicians mental health organization also claims Thor Harris as an Advisory Board member. The gifted drummer is famed for his Thor and Friends shows at Red River Cultural District’s Mohawk, the old Emo’s and more recently a dumpster fire, art performance he organized last year, employing multiple percussionists including Harris.
Austin rockers, Trouble in the Streets, the true outlaw country sounds of Western Youth will compliment this killer bill adroitly, adding the authentic songwriting of Graham Webber and his band. Webber played a SIMS event celebrating Deep Eddy Vodka and their partnership over last weekend at their tasting room.
Indy Brewing has already been booking great live shows at the tasting room and brewery since pandemic restrictions have eased, but this larger-than-usual format is something special for locals to get behind. The lineup was built by Pull String Events’ Mat Oldiges a long time partner of Indy Brewing and their live event programming. Also supporting this bill is Charles Godfrey’s Scary American recording studio which is quietly making a name for itself in a crowded, talent-rich market. Many of the acts with the exception of TBLSH have recorded with Godfrey already.
This will be Bright Light Social Hour’s second performance back from the pandemic slow-down and Western Youth’s first which offers yet another wrinkle to an already full slate of things to look forward to. Webber commented Saturday his band was eagerly looking forward to the date.
With sixteen bands on the bill, a suite of craft brews to sample plus live screen printed T-shirts 6-10 p.m. from Mindzai Creative, fire-spinning, live painting by Peelander Yellow and Raasin in the Sun, a vendor mart with artisan goods will also be on hand for guests’ entertainment. Food truck, Margiez Taco Truck along with in-house made burgers will be available to attendees all weekend.
