Live Stream Preview: VINYL Beauty Bar to host Johnny Cash birthday fundraiser for SIMS

This Sunday (February 28), locally-owned business, VINYL Beauty Bar is hosting a Johnny Cash themed fundraiser for The SIMS Foundation starting at 4:20 p.m. on the shop’s Facebook Page. The hair salon / record shop concept has invited several local musicians to perform in support of SIMS, an organization that provides access to mental health and addiction services to Austin music industry members and their families. With the world-wide pandemic stopping most live music production, demand for the mental health resources The SIMS Foundation provides the industry has become more vital than ever.

Some of the artists who have been invited to perform include:

Corey Baum (Croy and the Boys)
Billie Buck (Sailor Poon) and Nicholas Fong (Loteria)
Betty Benedeadly (Sheverb)
Tommy Bryant & Michael Simon (Seeds of Soul)
John Paul Scesniak (origami ghosts)
Mike Kiddoo
Casey Maloney
Shane LaRue

Owners Michael and Tinita Harpel decided to launch the event to benefit SIMS Foundation at their store after organizing previous benefits for HAAM and Austin Justice Coalition. Michael Harpel remarked, “We strongly believe in giving back to our community. The pandemic has hit us all, especially musicians, incredibly hard. Mental health awareness and addiction help has never been more needed it feels. We are blessed to know so many amazing musicians and just wanted to get them “together” for a good cause and an incredible organization [SIMS Foundation].”

Each artist is contributing one cover of a Johnny Cash song for the event which promises to be a good time for all. The start time is conducive to putting your mind in the right place to view a bevy of great local artists deliver their take on the legendary songwriter and singer.

If you would like to support the event but cannot make the live stream, head over to the GoFundMe Page VINYL Beauty Bar has already set up. The suggested donation is $10. Any amount helps SIMS get musicians and industry workers the support they need. Don’t forget to share the page or this story with your friends. VINYL Beauty Bar and SIMS will appreciate the gesture.
