PHOTOS: Wu-Tang Clan revived debut album 36 Chambers at Austin’s ACL Live
On the 25th Anniversary of legendary New York City rap outfit, Wu-Tang Clan’s first album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) the hip-hop group set off on a national tour, stopping at Austin’s ACL Live at The Moody Theater on October 7. The original lineup minus Ol’ Dirty Bastard (ODB) (who passed of a drug overdose in 2004) appeared with ODB’s son, Young Dirty Bastard playing surrogate for his father. A fitting tribute for an anniversary performance.
The sold-out show was one for the books. Our photographer, David Castaneda was there to document Wu-Tang’s performance at ACL Live. The rap collective has visited Austin several times including stops during SXSW, Fun Fun Fun Fest and one-off performances. Additionally, group mastermind, GZA has appeared on stage to collaborate with Austin Latin funksters and Grupo Fantasma off-shoot, Brownout on multiple occasions. The partnership has yielded several landmark shows including the opening party at Utopiafest in 2014.
