Live music preview: The Bird Barn booked killer bill at Empire Control Room Saturday

This weekend will be the last of relatively little traffic and easier parking downtown before university, high school and elementary students start back thereby increasing Austin’s congestion by a factor of ten. As a music fan, it would behoove us to take advantage of that fact and hit the clubs for some live music before the insanity begins. To that end, we’ve chosen to highlight The Bird Barn‘s killer psych-rock, punk and straight up rock n roll lineup at Empire Control Room Saturday. The stacked, all-local bill features Billy King and the Bad Bad Bad, Amplified Heat, Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol, Being Dead and Blood.

The show will be emceed by comic Allison Wojtowecz, with free CBD swag from Indigo Smart Cafe. Lysergic Lights will be using the eye-opening, multi-projector set-up in the Control Room to provide visuals plus there will be a ton of rad merch to scoop up from the bands. It’s going to be dogs days of summer warm outside but the indoor space where the show takes place will be nice and cool, so you can rock out without sweating out a bucket of water. Music fans can save $3 per person by purchasing presale tickets here.

Aside from all that, the roster of bands for this event is the best local bill in Austin Saturday by our own estimation. Headliners, Billy King deliver a wicked psychedelic, surf-rock set that will cap an impressive list of supporting artists. Amplified Heat bring a sizzling hot, (see what we did there?) straight-up rock n roll show. The veteran performers consistently put on great live performances. Two-man band, Being Dead bring a lighthearted, comedic tone to the rock/experimental outfit’s shows. Arrive early to catch excellent garage rock trio, Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol and off-the-wall, seven-piece jazz-punks, Blood.
