Live music preview: Levitation drops 2025 genre spanning lineup today with new location

Levitation Festival returns on September 25-28 this Fall, bringing another masterfully curated lineup by famed booker Rob Fitzpatrick and co-producers Resound Presents. This year’s setup will change from its regular format, featuring a new central home of the Palmer Events Center in downtown Austin while retaining late-night programming in the Red River Cultural District. The 2025 festival lineup is an eclectic, genre-spanning showcase of psych rock, metal, punk, electronica, indie rock, and everything in between – a celebration of independent music in the live music capital.

The booked talent will feature acts from all over the independent music spectrum, including Austin doom heavy-hitters The Sword, reunited sludge metal berzerkers Acid Bath, progressive death metal titans Blood Incantation, and more to represent Levitation Fest past and present. Before the weekend at Palmer kicks off, Thursday night will feature a variety of showcases in Austin. These will include Martin Rev of synth punk innovators Suicide and Boy Harsher, as well as shows from Neal Francis, Teen Suicide, and more.

The Fall edition will also feature performances from frequent flyers such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Frankie And The Witch Fingers, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Dandy Warhols, and A Place To Bury Strangers, as well as the return of festival founders The Black Angels after their absence from the Austin Psych Fest Spring edition.

If that wasn’t enough, attendees will also be treated to 1990s indie rock legends Pavement and Built To Spill. This Fall will mark Pavement’s first Austin appearance since the 2022 edition of the Austin City Limits Festival.

With the addition of The Palmer Events Center, the festival promises a massive indoor and outdoor space on the convention center’s green area, making the possibilities limitless with 360-degree lighting and visuals, day or night. The new location brings abundant space for interactive art and video installations, a DJ stage, vintage clothing pop-ups, record vendors, a food truck court, an expanded poster show, and much more to explore throughout the weekend. Along with Palmer being the primary fest hotspot, the weekend will also feature countless late show pop-ups all over Austin, including Radio/East, Stubb’s, Mohawk, 29th St Ballroom, and more. The fest will also feature kickoff events on September 24, with performances from Mdou Moctar and Beach Fossils, plus more to be announced.

“We’ve been searching for the right location to bring a multi-stage experience back to Levitation for years, and we found it right downtown. The venue offers a huge upgrade in production overall with endless possibilities for the visual experience, and great amenities – air conditioning, nice bathrooms, ample parking, a giant shaded outdoor courtyard, along with the production infrastructure needed for a world-class show. All of that in a beautiful park in the heart of the city,” explains Levitation co-founder and festival director Rob Fitzpatrick. “and the proximity to downtown means we’re still able to host shows in our Red River venues; these clubs are the heart and soul of our music scene in Austin and it wouldn’t be Levitation without them. We’re very excited to create something remarkable and built to last in this new home for the festival, and we can’t wait to experience this lineup with everyone in September.”

Tickets are on sale today as of 10 a.m. CST, with travel packages also available via the Levitation website.
