Song premiere: Austin power pop outfit Lola Tried dropped new single today

Austin power pop outfit Lola Tried has returned with a new single on January 31 that recaptures their mission statement of undeniable anthems, bombastic live appearances, and an inclusive atmosphere that they have cultivated over their near decade tenure as a local music scene staple. With multiple releases already out in the music world, the Austin act is continuing to add triumphant tunes into their arsenal and the songs just keep coming. Singer and songwriter Lauren Burton’s infectiously harnessed hooks and commanding stage presence make the group a worthy local attraction, showing her and the quartet’s dynamic range with every cut that scorches audiences with tastefully emulated mannerisms in the realm of Midwest-emo rawness with noisy garage rock revival madness.

On new track “Degrader,” the Austin-bred band’s creative tenacity marks a return with a song that showcases the band’s sonic evolution into a darker, heavier alternative rock sound. Starting with just a guitar intro and a declaratory vocal passage that soon erupts into dueling guitar and drums chaos, a new brand of confidence ensues and straps the listener in for a new venture through the lens of the outspoken Central Texas institution.

Burton shares “I wrote ‘Degrader’ about two men who put friends of mine in dangerous or precarious situations, multiple times. It was written after fielding phone calls and text messages, watching two people I love slowly become wrapped in the teeth of these men, unable to get out. I wanted to address the egos that affected their behavior, their inability to give up control, their assumption that they are on a journey of self-importance.”

Through the ambitious lens of longtime guitarist Ray Garza, drummer Austin Norman, and bassist Gianni Sarimento, Lola Tried is taking a new form, and we’re here for it. The bandleader credits the addition of new members Sarimento and Norman for the positive effect on the band and their writing.

The new track is set to be a part of a new EP, set to be released later in 2025. Check out Lola Tried’s new single wherever you stream music.
