Interview: Parker Woodland talk Austin music scene and new music with Mike Cosmic
In the ever evolving landscape of Austin music, few bands manage to capture the essence of raw emotion quite like Parker Woodland. This emerging band has been making waves in the indie and alternative rock music scene, blending heartfelt lyrics with captivating melodies to create a sound that feels timeless. With their winning combination of indie rock, and energetic performances, Parker Woodland creates music that feels grounded and authentic which makes the band a perfect choice to interview about their place in the Austin music scene.
Their live performances are a testament to their musical passion. Known for their high-energy shows and magnetic stage presence, the band has quickly gained a reputation as a must-see act. Whether they’re playing in an intimate coffeehouse or a packed music festival, Parker Woodland has a way of connecting with their audience that feels genuine.
Early January saw Mike Cosmic connect with and interview two members of Parker Woodland; lead vocalist and bassist Erin Walter, and drummer Keri Cinquina. These multi-talented musicians previously collaborated in Butch County before joining forces with guitarist Andrew Solin, forming Parker Woodland three years ago.
Our conversation delved into the band’s inception and the shared musical passion that united them. We explored the individual musical journeys of each member, revealing a dedication to music that spanned years. Cinquina, drumming since the age of six, pursued a music degree in college. Andrew honed his skills at famed Berklee College of Music, while Erin’s musical journey began in middle school with the upright bass. Our conversation led us into their deep-rooted connection to the Austin music scene, which stretches back to the 90s. We discussed how they’ve honed their sound into the indie-alternative style that defines Parker Woodland’s music.
We discussed the making of their latest release, There is No Such Thing As Time, which was recorded by producer Matt Parmenter at Ice Cream Factory Studio and features collaboration with acclaimed producer Brent Baldwin, known for his work with artists like Big Star, Roky Erickson, Wilco, Mobley, Alejandro Escovedo, Trail of Dead, REM, and many others. That opened up the connection between the members. How Keri and Andrew never knew each other but they instantly connected on a level that evolved into Erin fronting a band for the first time. We talked about the intensity of their track “The Reckoning,” which is on their most recent release along with a remix version available online.
Parker Woodland puts in the work and it shows with their explosive live performances and studio output. The band is a recipient of the well deserved Sonic Guild grant and recently performed at the Sonic Guild Ball. They play with their hearts on their sleeves and is one of those bands that you have to catch live and you will be leaving with a new found energy passed on by their music.
Dont’s miss your chance to catch the trio as they will be completing their January residency tonight at Hotel Vegas. Make sure to checkout their latest release, There’s No Such Thing as Time via Bandcamp below.
