Live music preview: Holiday Hootenanny with Danny Brown, HEALTH, Of Montreal, Water From Your Eyes set for December 14-15
Resound Presents’ annual winter formal returns this year with a two-day event set to take place on December 14 and 15 with a worthy lineup to ensure Austin music fans send off their year with a bang. The 16-band excursion dubbed the “Holiday Hootenanny,” is an enormous opportunity to see the up-and-coming and well-established talent with many acts that have torn through Austin in 2024 as show favorites as the stacked concert calendar in town has continued to unfold. The event is also co-presented by all-star concert photographer Pooneh Ghana and famed local radio station KUTX. The annual programming will take place at the multi-stage Radio/East, located in South Austin, one of the city’s most exciting new venues.
The micro-fest will have DJs from a mix of local and national touring talent, a holiday vendor market, food trucks, a toy and clothing drive, and pure winter holiday fun. More programming details will be announced in the coming weeks, along with set times.
The lineup will include the likes of Detroit-Austin experimental rapper Danny Brown, industrial-noise berserkers HEALTH, critically acclaimed Brooklyn art rock duo Water From Your Eyes, Atlanta mainstays Of Montreal, as well as local talent to commemorate yet another year in the vibrant Central Texas music scene. Local performing artists will feature psych-pop powerhouses Being Dead, masked butchershop crushers, Tear Dungeon, post-punkers Font, industrial rap trio Haha Laughing, and retro rock n’ roll quartet Magic Rockers Of Texas.
With Radio/East’s enormous event space and fruitful drink selections, the Southeast venue is the perfect spot to enjoy live music for two full days. Rapper Danny Brown is known for his chaotic stage demeanor. Since the Detroit native’s relocation to Austin and recent dedication to sobriety, the Hip Hop star has stayed prolific with a recent studio release, Quaranta, and a collaborative effort with Los Angeles super-producer/fellow experimental rapper JPEGMAFIA, Scaring The Hoes. Following in those footsteps will be Austin weirdo rap outfit Haha Laughing, whose Death Grips-esque delivery won over many fans this year at multiple local shows and a gauntlet of appearances at this year’s edition of SXSW.
Of Montreal also soared into Austin this year with a sold-out performance at Red River Cultural District staple, Mohawk. Complete with onstage dancers, a mesmerizing light show, and a widespread catalog, the Georgia players have never lost their passion for the stage, bringing their traveling spectacle to each city they drop anchor in for every tour stop. Following in their direction on the second day of the festival will be local indie sweethearts Being Dead, who just released their sophomore album Eels this year to national critical acclaim. The trio sold out Radio/East this year for their album release show on their own accord, and they’re not a band to miss whenever they take over any given venue for a live set.
Full festival passes and single-day tickets are available via the Resound Presents website.
