Live music preview: Wizard Rodeo festival is set for year four with thoughtfully curated eclectic bill

The annual Wizard Rodeo music festival returns to The Long Time Sandlot for year four of folk-oriented fun on December 7. An eclectic lineup put together by San Antonio country rock sensation and Lonesome Rose venue owner Garrett T. Capps, Little Mazarn’s Lindsey Verrill, and The Long Time owner Jesse Ebaugh, Wizard Rodeo promises a celebration that defies all the current era’s normalities with a genre-spanning music lineup, art installations, and multiple stages, (Including one located inside of an onsite boarding house, go figure.) The booked talent will showcase the widespread creativity of Central Texas and beyond.

With the grounds being a 15-minute drive from Austin’s East Side, the homegrown one-day event brings a wide variety of acts that music fans of all genres should be lending their ears to. Set times can be found via The Wizard Rodeo website and more information will be shared closer to the event.

Austin ethereal folk staples Little Mazarn and San Antonio treasures Garrett T. Capps & NASA Country will appear at Wizard Rodeo, as is tradition for the festival founders. The day will also feature headliners Los Angeles folk songwriter Nina Nastasia and Will Johnson, a Missouri-born artist currently touring with Jason Isbell’s band, the 400 Unit. Site owner Ebaugh will also perform in his band, The Sahara Quartet.

The annual event will also feature a set from Neutral Milk Hotel percussionist Jeremy Barnes’ A Hawk And A Hacksaw, a venture he shares with his spouse, Heather Trost, who plays violin in the duo.

Other performing artists include Oogwei, Blipswitch, The Space Lady, and Heavy Stars. In the 2023 installment, an additional stage dubbed “The Drone Zone” also featured performing artists and other collaborators who played in the interims between each set to keep the vibes going as the packed day of music commenced. For this year’s installment, The Drone Zone will feature a multitude of musical acts performing at the festival and will be the center of a wide range of music programming.
