Fundraiser: White Horse employee Luke Trimmer needs our help, benefit concert this Sunday

If there’s one thing that Austin does well, it’s to stick together. This holds true, especially if you’re involved in the nightlife scene. From musicians to club managers to bartenders, comics, and even us journalists, it’s a delicate ecosystem in which everyone is a part of something bigger than them. Everyone around here knows one another, if only by sight and through their efforts as people in a city that’s just a big town. Austin is still built on the DIY ethos no matter how much tech money comes in to corrupt the concept – no matter what.

One of Austin’s best and brightest this past week, Luke Trimmer from White Horse, was hit by someone who had too many sodas and turned a wrong turn – down I-35. And now Luke is in a bad way. Just a guy like many of us, after a long shift on his feet, looking forward to a plate of tacos and the warmth of his bed. That’s pretty much everyone reading this; every time we get ready to head home after a late night, no one expects to be pulled from the twisted metal of a car wreck.

And because of one person’s poor choices, Luke is in a coma in the ICU at Dell Seaton here in Austin. It’s going to be a long road to recovery, considering Luke is not only unconscious but also has a broken arm, two spinal fractures, and brain bleeding.

If you’ve had a drink at The White Horse, chances are this guy poured you that Jameson extra stiff while rocking his tracksuit. Life is hard, and thanks to our draconian medical system, when those medical bills stack up, it’s a symphysial task to get out from under that boulder of debt. Bar owner, Nathan Hill set up a fundraiser to offset the massive costs, Trimmer and his family are facing.

White Horse has also organized an all-day live music fundraiser this Sunday from 2 p.m. to midnight featuring Bridge Farmers, Chill Cold Blood, Mayeux and Broussard, Aaron McDonnell, Silo Road, Cotton Clifton and Amarillo Road to finish off the evening.

Please consider donating to Luke’s GoFundMe.

Luke, we’re all pulling for you.
