Live music preview: LEVITATION 2024 music festival lineup and schedule is out
Austin-based psychedelia collective Levitation has announced the 2024 edition with the lineup and schedule of their multi-venue festival to take place in downtown Austin over Halloween weekend. The festival will retain its four-day format, featuring venues in the Red River Cultural District and other parts of Austin. The event runs from October 31 – November 3. Each day of programming will contain multiple shows at various locations throughout its duration, including; Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheatre, Mohawk, Empire Garage & Control Room, Elysium, The 13th Floor, and the new addition of downtown EDM favorite, Kingdom.
Psych and garage rock mainstays Osees will perform all four nights of Levitation at Hotel Vegas, a tradition for their multiple-night stands that have become a gathering of their own. The festival will also feature a Halloween night performance from fest producers The Black Angels, who will perform at Red River’s 2500-cap Stubb’s alongside Nigerian psychedelic act Mdou Moctar and Brazilian act The Boogarins.
The festival promises a diverse lineup, featuring performances from legacy acts such as The Jesus Lizard, Slowdive, Pentagram, and A Place To Bury Strangers. The festival will also contain performances from the leading forces in the current psych-rock scene such as Slift, Meatbodies, Wine Lips, and Death Valley Girls. Shows will range from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., with after-shows at The Black Angels’ Jake Garcia-owned The 13th Floor, details of which will be revealed at a later date.
The festival will also feature a reunion set from Austin stoner metal titans, The Sword, who had previously announced their dissolution in 2022 after being a band for 19 years. The performance will take place on the closing Sunday of the festival, and will feature Austin bands The Well and Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol, and stoner metal legends Pentagram.
This year, Levitation will host shows for the first time at the new downtown Austin venue Kingdom, featuring DJs such as Brooklyn’s The Dare, Axel Boman, and Patrick Holland. The programming is billed to last until 3 a.m. each night.
The 2023 edition of the multi-venue festival featured a stellar lineup that included the likes of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Dandy Warhols, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, High On Fire, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, and Amyl & The Sniffers. The 2024 edition promises to deliver the same level of multi-layered talent in the venues that make the Austin scene a must-see in 2024.
