Video premiere: Exotic Frutica released latest video 90K House in Sweden today
Austin noise punk act Exotic Fruitica has released their latest video to accompany the newly released single “90k House In Sweden.” The track proceeds “NYC Feeling,” showing the Austin act pushing the envelope on their punishing instrumentation, pervasive lyricism, and deafening live performances. Since the release of EP Cruel, which spawned remix collaborations with fellow local noisemakers Blank Hellscape, Body Tape, and T H E H O a R D, Exotic Fruitica has been taking over stage after stage in Austin, and they have big plans for the future.
The accompanying video for this new single bodes well to support its confrontational nature. The footage shows the Exotic Fruitica ensemble carrying out deeds for the criminal underground, with the members appearing to be the ringleaders for the operation. The new video goes hand-in-hand with their other video releases, and is starting a reputation for a musical vehicle that makes visceral statements with their visual representations.
Exotic Fruitica’s recent live shows have them performing as a 5-piece, with frontman Jon French appearing onstage taking sole vocal duties while the rest of the musicians hold the instrumentals down for the Austin outfit’s sonically punishing live shows. When discussing the transition to doing vocal duties, French says that this has been his dream since the formation of the group. After a triumphant run at 2024’s edition of South by Southwest, French and company have shown nothing but weaponized musical tenacity.
To accompany this new release, Exotic Fruitica will play a gig at Red River Cultural District rock and roll haunt, The 13th Floor, known for its eclectic bookings of touring acts and local bands alike. EF will take the headlining reins for a bill populated by local heavy-hitters Exercise and Variety, both going hand-in-hand with the headliner’s abrasive approach.
For Exotic Fruitica’s 2024 plans, a series of 7-inch records are expected with each new single release, and will make up the quintet’s upcoming record, a lot of which has been making up recent live performances. For Friday’s release show, “NYC Feeling” will appear on the other side of the record, and a limited number of copies will be sold. The compositions represent rhythmic frenzies of minimalist aggression, usually resulting in tunes that have French using his hardcore-style vocals with an eccentric twist to round out the project’s sound.
On top of Exotic Fruitica’s upcoming performance at The 13th Floor on March 22, they will also perform as The Strokes at The Coral Snake on Cesar Chavez playing cuts from the New York City legends’ classic album Is This It, which also spawned a cassette release and a streaming release soon after.
