Live music preview: Hot Summer Nights offers free shows all weekend

Beginning with a Tito’s kickoff party at Swan Dive this evening, Austin’s annual Hot Summer Nights takes place this weekend at various venues around the downtown Red River Cultural District (RRCD). Established as a counterpart to the longer running Free Week during the post-Christmas lull. Hot Summer Nights is organized by the RRCD to showcase up and coming Austin acts with free admission to 14 venues. Some of the acts performing include The Oxy’s, Annabelle Chairlegs, Big Bill, Andrew Cashen (A Giant Dog), Money Chicha, Exotic Fruitica and DJ performances from Osees front man, John Dwyer. Most shows slated are listed at Do512.

In addition to the Swan Dive lineup tonight, Empire Garage and Control Room are hosting the Time to Rise event tonight presented by SIMS Foundation and the D Woods Foundation hosted by Ill Manner Shows. The all-urban music lineup includes TCC favorite Mama Duke in addition to Moody Banks, Kidd Jones and J Soulja.

Besides venue participation and 115 shows, area restaurants and bars are offering concert goers discounts during Hot Summer Nights. We’ve listed those deals below for a “discount menu at-a-glance” for your convenience. For example, tonight only, get Hoboken Pie pizza slices for $4. New to Hot Summer Nights this year, the Red River Cultural District has also partnered with Central District
Brewing’s team to debut their own custom-crafted beer, The Red River Kolsch. Each 12 oz. can boasts a new label
created by Austin’s very own illustrator/graphic designer Cat Barrera featuring scenes inspired by the culture of
Austin’s only walkable music district.

The Red River Kolsch can be found in Central District Brewing’s taproom beginning July 20, as well as at nearby
District businesses like Stubb’s, Flamingo Cantina, The Creek & The Cave, Cheer Up Charlies, Pelon’s, Swan Dive,
and Empire Control Room & Garage. Proceeds raised will be directed back to the Red River Cultural District and
fellow Austin-based nonprofit Caritas of Austin.
