Video premiere: DAIISTAR drop new music video, announced Fuzz Club signing
Austin noise-pop band DAIISTAR released their music video “Tracemaker ” for their debut single as a precursor to Austin Psych Fest which runs today through Sunday at Far Out Lounge and Stage. Produced by The Black Angels’ Alex Maas, the psychedelic track intros fuzzed out guitar with tambourine. Lead singer Alex Capistran’s wide, spacey vocals lift the listener into some sort of celestial arena.
“Trip seeker, head trotter, on the drop just to top plus ultra”: short two word verses are enigmatic, but teeter on the same line of tripped-out romanticism as Oasis’ “Champagne Supernova”. “Candy flip with the ride-share driver” revitalizes nineties alternative music in a new era. Nick Cornetti keeps the drums light to preserve the weightlessness of the track. “There was a time in my life when I wanted to push the boundary of existence both physically and mentally. The memories I have of those days are vague and abstract just like the words written for ‘Tracemaker,’ but when it’s all put together you begin to understand the meaning,” says Capistran.
The video “Tracemaker” incorporates high saturation clips with fisheye lenses, long exposure snippets, and grainy closeups for a three minute montage intended to introduce DAIISTAR outside of Austin, Texas; all while paying homage to the nineties and the glory of its camcorder recorded videos. DAIISTAR anticipates releasing their debut LP later this year. Stay tuned for updates!
DAIISTAR formed in spring of 2020, creating fuzzy noise-pop and shoegaze tunes. The four piece band takes inspiration from The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, and Spaceman 3. They have busted out of the gate, becoming a quintessential Austin band, especially at LEVITATION-hosted events. Last year, DAIISTAR opened on the final day of the festival at Stubb’s for Frankie and the Witch Fingers and La Femme.
The music video signals their signing to UK-based label, Fuzz Club Records. The record label specializes in rock music, experimenting with noise, shoe gaze, blues, and psychedelia. Fuzz Club has previously worked alongside King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Night Beats, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Austin neo-psych-rock heroes, The Black Angels.
