Live music preview (and song premiere): The Selfless Lovers and Henry Invisible play Continental Friday
If you’re a longtime reader then you know we’re fans of Nik Parr and The Selfless Lovers, who are releasing their single “So Far Gone,” from their upcoming album “Promised Land,” at Continental Club Friday evening. The high-energy act are filming the concert live at Austin’s oldest rock n roll venue.
The venue is apropos of Selfless Lovers who can best be described as fusion piano rock. By that we mean the basis of the band is Parr’s prodigiousness on keys and a tight, piano rock sound fused with jazz and blues stylings that make Selfless Lovers’ particular sound… which is the joy of music in our estimation. They really put on a great performance.
According to Parr, the single has kind of a modern soul feel with a big catchy, pop hook. He says it’s about driving out to New Orleans but that’s probably only the half of it if you want to know the truth. This artist runs deep with an equally strong love of visual arts (check out the band’s album art). Fittingly, the track mentions Dr. John and other NOLA music luminaries in a lush track that features piano, horns and a healthy, welcome dose of funk.
They’re co-billing with one man-funk band and Austin icon, Henry + The Invisibles. The bill is rounded out by Isaac Sloane & The Sound Brigade from Dallas. The evening promises some special performances and Parr has let us know there are special guests in store for those lucky enough to grab a ticket to this one.
