Video Premiere: Swallow the Rat drops Other Rooms featuring Yuko Miyoshi clip today

New Zealand post-punks Swallow the Rat are premiering their video of the track “Other Rooms” featuring Yuko Miyoshi (of Memory Foam) today at The Cosmic Clash. A Place To Bury Strangers’ Oliver Ackermann contributes “in the red” audio production on the standout cut the band will no doubt feature on their upcoming tour of New Zealand (see schedule below).

The “Other Rooms” track is quite good with guest vocalist, Miyoshi wailing out her verse in rapid-fire Japanese. More on the single from the band: “Other Rooms” is a garage-psych barnstormer with half-remembered images from a scorched landscape.

Miyoshi obliterates the second half of the tune with an intense verse taking the subject matter in a whole new direction,  telling the story of someone trapped in a room, trying to escape but finding the next room is perhaps worse…

Other Rooms has been released on today, on November 11 (Nov 10 in North America) with an accompanying self-produced video, shot and edited by the band’s own Hayden Fritchley and starring Miyoshi in a series of strobed out dream sequences.”

If that’s not enough for fans, the single is available on a limited edition lathe cut 7″ you’ll wish you’d purchased while you had the chance. This act is surely heading to bigger and better things with my education‘s Brian Purington at the helm. The band is expected to return to Austin for SXSW in March of next year. Keep an eye out for official announcements regarding tour dates next year.

The B side is equally as compelling: “Side B: “Realised” is a major departure for Swallow the Rat, and a taste of their new found creative freedom. A looped out free-form / improvised soundscape, carved up and reassembled by Ackermann, recalling the Butthole Surfers or early Mercury Rev. “Realised” will be released with a video on November 25 along with the physical 7”.

Copies of the 7” “Other Rooms”  are available for pre-order from Bandcamp.
