Live music preview: LEVITATION Fest 2022 lineup features King Gizzard, Osees and more

Today LEVITATION Fest dropped a doozy of a lineup and put tickets on sale for the festival which takes place October 27-30, 2022 in various downtown Austin venues featuring headlining sets from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Osees and Jesus and Mary Chain and The Black Angels. Cosmic Clash favorites, Osees (formerly Thee Ohsees) are playing all four nights of the festival, which is music to our ears.

Further down the bill the list of performing acts is tantalizing. Music fans will be faced with some tough decisions. Should we catch W.I.T.C.H. who we’ve been itching to see again since we caught their set at the Dr. Martens party at SXSW? Or do we skip that for Jesus and Mary Chain with Promartyr on Thursday? These are good problems for music fans to have. Other acts to get excited for include:

Viagra Boys
Shame
L7
Death Valley Girls
Pleasure Venom
A Giant Dog
Frankie and the Witch Fingers (check the clip of their incredible 2020 LEVITATION set at Hotel Vegas below)
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets (who win best band name in a close tie with Tropical Fuck Storm)
A 3D presentation by Moon Duo

This festival is stacked with talent as it always is. Advanced tickets are on sale now. Grab them fast as many of these venue-based shows will sell out.

LEVITATION-2022-lineup

Official LEVITATION Fest venues include Stubbs, Mohawk, Empire, Hotel Vegas, Parish, Antone’s and Scoot Inn. Final additions, light-show and video artists plus DJ sets are still to be announced.

Founded in 2008 by members of The Black Angels, LEVITATION has delivered lineups that span psych, punk, indie, metal, darkwave and electronic music – helping carry the spirit of 1960’s sonic experimentation into modern times. It’s a beloved record collection manifested into a 4 day weekend, with lineups that span continents and generations: a heady amalgamation of vintage gear, immersive light shows and visuals, buzzing amps, moody synths, leather jackets, and good times.

Fun Fact: Austin Psych Fest was renamed LEVITATION in honor of Austin’s psychedelic rock pioneers The 13th Floor Elevators, who reunited and performed at LEVITATION 2015 for the band’s 50th anniversary. You could even say Roky Erickson (13th Floor Elevators) is the patron saint of the fest.
