Song review: Austin artist Rene Chavez released new single Big Mouth last Friday
Last Friday marked the release of the new single by Rene Chavez, “big mouth.” Chavez has branched out beyond playing guitar and performing lead vocals for Austin-based band and The Cosmic Clash favorite, Latin fusion act, Como Las Movies to sing and play guitar for his latest solo project.
Self-described as “Informed by 80s new wave and 90s alternative”, “big mouth” features heavy hitting drums, a prevailing bass to supplement Chavez’s vocal delivery and the signature guitar style of the post-punk era. Cue up the fog machine for this one. If you’re old enough, this will hit you in the nostalgia feels despite being a new song for 2022.
The lyrics of the track echoes the melancholic angst of The Cure. “Fist fight with all your sharpest words; their eyes look better when they’re hurt,” rings Chavez’s Legato battle rally to attack a false identity during the chorus. The full lyrics are below.
The song was written and produced by Rene Chavez. Dylan Fischer mixed and mastered the recording. Fischer also performed piano on the new tune. Be on the lookout. This gifted artist plans to drop more tracks later in 2022.
