Single premiere: Semihelix release lush track Will It Take

Dreampop act, Semihelix have announced the release of their third and final single “Will It Take” from their upcoming album Recoil out October 23 on Mariel Records. The new track highlights the band’s growth as a unit while exploring some pretty serious themes as Geannie Friedman, Semihelix’s leader explains below.

What this song is, is nothing short of fantastic. Produced and mixed by Matt Gerhard (Spoon, Future Islands) and mastered by Max Lorezen (Spoon, Shearwater), this record has an air of superiority it both has no right and every right to feel this proud of itself. But it does, and it should in our view. Fueled by Friedman’s ethereal vocals that float above the driving beat from Valdemar Barrera and the bass beat of Kevin Martin.

Friedman:

“This song is about overcoming hard times, and even when things seem hopeless they do get better in time. As an optimist, Geannie wrote this song when feeling a lot of depression, and people close were also going through rough times. She speaks about bouncing back, and also taking the time to heal while in the process of resiliency. Even when moving forwards, things have the tendency to knock us down. She speaks about the importance of getting back up, and continuing to move forward. We are our own best advocates, and she speaks about this in this song, as well as uplifting others. It’s especially important that when we get back up, we take along our close friends with us. When they succeed, I succeed, We all grow together. No going backwards, only forwards. When it comes to depression, Geannie has had episodes of deep depression, but pulls herself back up again and again. “What will it take to make you happy again?” is a note to self, what will it take? It’s a work in progress.”

That’s directly from the songwriter’s mouth so take it as you will. All we know, is this is another great song in a collection of great song we think you’ll like as much as we do once the record drops. in the meantime, there are three singles for your ear holes to enjoy.
