Song Premiere: Austin band Zachman drops first single from upcoming EP
Austin band, Zachman has been busy in the studio during the local music industry slow-down due to the world-wide pandemic. Accordingly, the group is introducing their first single, “All Wired Up” today exclusively at The Cosmic Clash. The down and dirty punk rock track teases a six-song EP, Lotto that will be self-released this September.
“All Wired Up” officially releases April 2 on Bandcamp, then on all streaming platforms April 9. The song itself is a bite-sized taste of the EP. In classic, old-school, punk rock style, “All Wired Up” clocks in at exactly one minute of furious destruction announcing the new record. It’s a fun song the listener can imagine being performed live which is what Zachman had in mind when they got into the studio.
“Our live show is our top priority — and we’ve noticed at our shows that our audiences tend to respond most enthusiastically to our louder, punkier songs, including some of our older songs like Matchless and Carrying the Team as well as covers like IDLES’ Danny Nedelko.”
With that in mind, the group set out to make more high-energy, punk-oriented tracks. “All Wired Up” hits that mark nicely with this short but rocking song that lets the audience know Zachman is ready to throw down once they get in front of a live audience. A few classic punk acts come to mind when we heard this song for the first time; Seven Seconds, The Ramones, Black Flag. Their sound is unmistakably punk rock with the furious pace and vibes to match their intention.
The entire Lotto EP was made during quarantine. The album was produced, mixed, mastered by Jamie Hill. Guitar and viola engineering was completed by Gary Calhoun James at King Electric Studio in Austin. Zachman is led by Johnny Zachman (vocals, guitar, synth). Brothers, Matt (guitar, viola) and Mike LoCoco (drums, percussion) bring a familial element to the band, while Gary Calhoun James (bass) and Jenny Magistrelli (clarinet) wind up their current recording lineup.
Zachman is working on producing music videos for this single and two others from the forthcoming record with their favorite Austin visual artists: Daniel Cavazos, Roger Ho, and Paul Shirley. Indeed those are talented, local photographers and live music visual specialists. They’re also among our favorite content creators in town. We’re looking forward to catching the all the clips when they drop.
More on the EP from the band: “There’s also a theme of deliverance that runs through this album. Our last record, Patterns, explored the idea of being trapped in different cycles of behavior. It didn’t have a happy ending. But in this record, the characters make it out alive. They get to a better place.”
Here’s to the entire music industry getting to a better place before the end of this year.
