Live music review: full moon, Venus and Hotel Vegas with Being Dead and Transy Warhol
As a full moon aligned with Venus in the Friday night sky, down below, on March 24, cosmic forces further aligned on East Sixth, at Hotel Vegas to bring Being Dead, Transy Warhol, Other Vessels and White Soxx together.
As the Friday evening comedy show concluded, and the indoor venue at Hotel Vegas emptied, the hardworking Hotel Vegas staff toiled at lightning-speed to set up for the musical showcase to follow.
The stage was set up and the sound check in-process, when at around 10:20, the first act, billed as Miss Miranda, entered the stage for her first-ever Hotel Vegas performance, as new act, Other Vessels.
The quartet, consisting of Miranda Haney ( guitar and vocals), Sean Eads (keyboard and vox), Thom Waddill (lead guitar), and Jack Owens (drums) delivered a mellow set that chilled out the crowd, while engaging showgoers with thoughtful lyrics and infectious instrumentation.
Check out Miss Miranda live on April 11, at Meanwhile Brewing.

Lefty Parker, also in his first Hotel Vegas performance, and also with a new band, White Soxx followed Other Vessels. The group, consisting of Mat Davidson (pedal steel), Austin Vaughn (drums), Will Clark (guitar), Roman Parnell (bass), Natalie Jane Hill (vocals), and Lefty (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), brought bluesy, funky, Americana to the Hotel Vegas indoor stage.
Though they do not have any scheduled upcoming shows, be on the lookout for the debut album from White Soxx in 2024.

Being Dead was the third band up that evening, and immediately enchanted the crowd with their unique blend of droney-thrash, unorthodox sounds bouncing from one rhythm to another, juxtaposing musical measures that kept those in attendance curious of what would come next.
Among Austin musicians they’ve become a local favorite for good reason. Falcon Bitch (guitar, drums, vocals), Ricky Moto (bass), and Gumball (guitar, drums, vocals) put on a tempo-bending, psych-rock set that had attendees dazzled.
Be on the lookout for the debut record from Being Dead, When Horses Would Run, which is scheduled for release in July, on Bayonet Records. The first single, “Muriel’s Big Day Off,” is dropping on April 12.
Check out Being Dead live at Austin Psych Fest at Far Out Lounge on April 28. If you’re up in the Denton area on April 15, and would like to check out Being Dead, they will surely put on a great set.

Many patrons left after Being Dead, assuming they were the headlining act. The venue had all but emptied out. This changed quickly as Transy Warhol took stage. Their refreshing sound resembles that of early 2000’s rock revival. They’re crisp, tight, and loud. Ruby (vocals), Adri (guitar), Louise (bass), and Belle (drums) will release their latest LP on April 28. Transy Warhol have already released “Kaleidoscope” and “Afterglow” as singles out now.
Transy Warhol setlist:
Kaleidoscope
Deceiver, Baby

All four bands brought their unique sound, offering variety and musical intensity throughout the night. This lineup was a reminder that Hotel Vegas continues to consistently put on great musical showcases. If you find yourself on East Sixth Street and hear music echoing from the venue, it’s beyond worth it to drop in and check out the talent. Thank us later.
