The Limiñanas – Crystal Anis – The Cosmic Clash

To stay consistent we’re going to highlight another recently released revivalist record. The band is The Limiñanas (Lio Limiñanas providing the majority of instrumentation, Marie Limiñanas providing the drumming) and the album is Crystal Anis. From the south of France they’ve modernized a genre of fuzz pop that drifts back to the European singer-songwriter explosion known as yé-yé, most notably introduced to the rest of the world through the innocence of France Gall and sophistiqué of Serge Gainsbourg. But what The Liminanas do to vibrate the style anew makes Crystal Anis feel like yé-yé recorded in Warhol’s Factory under the guidance of the Velvet Underground straight from the Loaded sessions. Which is too say this is one hell of a cool record. As cool as a day off work spent naked under bed sheets smoking and staring out windows. You know the cool I’m talking about.

Call in sick and give The Limiñanas’ Crystal Anis a few listens for yourself. Buy the album at Hozac Records. Listen to the single “AF3458” below and the tracks “Salvation” and “Un Ballad Pour Clive” above.
