Live music preview: Luscious Heaven Shoegaze show and The Nothing Song label launch
There are probably more small, independent, local record labels in Austin than you’d expect. That fact isn’t stopping The Nothing Song owner, Trish Connelly from launching her own label on 7″ featuring talented newcomers, Blushing. The Cheer-Up Charlie’s booker is announcing the newly formed label at her Luscious Heaven: A Night of Shoegaze and Dreampop on Saturday, November 3 (this weekend) at the aforementioned Red River club. Connelly won an Austin Music Award earlier this year for her work as The Best Booker in Austin. The entire lineup is worth watching; Ringo Deathstarr, Glaze and Rose Ette (Houston) fill out the rest of the bill. Attendees can RSVP for the show via Facebook.
The new Blushing record was recorded and produced by Ringo Deathstarr‘s Elliot Frazier. The guitarist and vocalist is an apt choice for Blushing to work with on the material. A veteran performer whose own deliciously, heavy shoegaze act has successfully toured Japan frequently while largely flying under the radar stateside. It’s been a bit of a puzzle why the band hasn’t garnered a wider audience at home. Yeah, they’re better than you’re thinking. Click the link and see for yourself.
Blushing’s new single, “The Truth” officially dropped October 26 on The Nothing Song records. Fans have an opportunity to celebrate the release with the band and grab copies of the single or either previously released EP. Like most of Blushing’s material, the track is lush, dense and filled with otherworldly sounds emanating from the keyboards and effects pedals.
“The Truth” is the debut release from The Nothing Song Records. Since its initiation in 2015, The Nothing Song has held a reputation for curating events showcasing both touring and local bands. Continuing to offer a curatorial platform geared towards evoking a deeply emotional and personal experience for each concert-goer, the label is aiming for a roster that ties together an artist’s capability for an all encompassing aesthetic with a focus on carefully crafted albums and visual material.
