Single premiere: Holy Wire released new single Lost this week

Holy Wire has released their new single “Lost,” out this week on all streaming services. The single, accompanied by two music videos, one lyric and one visual, showcases the unique blend of influences that define the Austin electro pop act. Frontman Alain Paradis’ inspired prowess for post punk, infused with synth and moody vocal deliveries, draws from the New York City rock and roll revival and the eclectic nature of the Austin music scene, creating a musical utopia that is both familiar and refreshingly new.

Since moving to Austin from New York, Paradis has made himself comfortable in the city’s music scene, saying that people seem more open-minded in the local sphere. In a recent Cosmic Clash interview, Paradis recounted how his creativity has been nurtured in a positive way since the move down south.

“In the Austin music scene, I’ve been doing a lot better, but also, I’ve written all this new music, worked with a great producer, have a new mastering engineer, and got my social media game together. I have a strategy on releasing stuff. I’ve been going out on the scene. It’s hard to say exactly.” Paradis spoke of his journey to the new city.

Paradis also mentioned how seriously people take music in Austin and the open-mindedness of the surrounding music scene fans. In the local music fandom, people don’t dedicate themselves to just one genre; they go out to see what music the city offers on any given night.

“There’s definitely a difference. [In Austin], people just wander into your gig. “Hey, I just came to check it out.” They weren’t there to come and see your band. They were just out to go out and see live music. In New York, it’s a battle for height. You have to have some of that to get people in the room. There were only so many venues where the bar is part of the venue. It would be in a backroom. It’s easier to get people out. People are a little more self-aware in New York. People don’t move as much. Not as much dancing. And even in New York, people complain about this.” Paradis said of his experience in town.

On the new single, Holy Wire continues their talent for tunes that have dynamic instrumentals that carry influences from bands like The Cure, The Smiths, New Order, and other coveted New Wave acts that make for introspective lyricism that bode well to bring the new track into a cataclysmic ending of the Austin-New York frontman bellowing “This Is All I Got,” until the track winds down into a synth ridden close that reiterates Paradis’ retro callbacks of fluttering keyboards and emotional vocal deliveries that pay tasteful homage to his musical heroes.

The featured music video, directed by Colleen Zickler and Angela Herr, expresses a mysterious aura that showcases Holy Wire’s ethereal vibe of questioning the world at large. The piece features the main character, played by Paradis, searching for answers the singer can’t seem to find. The frantic actions result in eventual distress that erupts into chaos before the video’s end.

“Lost” is out now via all streaming services, with the accompanying lyric and music videos available on the Holy Wire YouTube channel.
