Video premiere: Semihelix released dreamy new single Downstream Friday

Semihelix is back with a brand new single “Downstream” (Hen House Studios), a shoegaze anthem that perfectly captures the late summer vibe and invites us all to take a deep breath and let shit go. Band members Geannie Friedman (guitar/vocals), Mikey Cota (bass) and Valdemar Barrera (drums/vocals) bring their signature sound to this anthem about going through the fire and opening ourselves up to a better, more chill way of being.

The song clocks in at six-minutes and nineteen-seconds, starting out with Friedman’s signature strum. It then quickly moves into an optimistic yet wistful tune with airy vocals and a nimble bass line. The trio is giving us the sound of a winding Central Texas river on a hot August afternoon – an opportunity to tune out the rest of the world and while you lazily muse over where you’ve been. By the time we’re five minutes in, listeners are comfortably floating down a very cool audio stream, lost in a daydream with lead vocalist, Friedman who stars in the video.

The single was released along with a charming video featuring scenes shot as a surreal moving sketches, sliced with whimsical graphics. Throughout Friedman engages in shenanigans surrounded by groovy midcentury decor as she breaks out of her rut and playfully embraces a new version of herself. She’s joined intermittently by the band in whimsical scenes with them jamming or goofing off.

“Downstream” is the second single from the band this year. This single along with one more in September will be released on a 7′ later this year It will also be included on their upcoming EP slated for release in early 2024.

Semihelix performed the song live at their single and video release last night at Austin Beer Garden Brewing Company (ABGB) with a great response from the audience who appeared to appreciate the new music as much as the trio’s more well-known songs.
