Song review: Jeremiah Jackson dropped Wet Dream yesterday
Austin glam rocker Jeremiah Jackson released a new single, a cover of the song, “Wet Dream” on May 1. The song was written and originally recorded by the British indie rock group Wet Leg led by Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers. Some of Wet Legs’ hits include “Chaise Longue” and “Ur Mom.”
“Wet Dream” is a fun pop song, led by sexually provocative lyrics. “I was in your wet dream, Driving in my car, What makes you think you’re good enough, To think about me when you’re touching yourself?” How can you avoid those dirty thoughts from seeping into your head? The subject matter is nothing new to any music genre. Practically most songs are written about sex. What would music be without human sexuality? It would be dry and boring. Whether the subject talks about love or an animal-natured instinct. Music is supposed to make you feel something. In this version of the song, it is provocative to have the protagonist switch from a female to Jackson’s male perspective. That change in point of view, adds depth and originality to the cover.
Jackson and his crew reworked the track into their own, evoking the spirits of David Bowie, and Marc Boland. Jackson’s vision paints the song using a wide brush of dirty distortion, and David Byrne-like vocals. The song’s transformation would not be possible without Dylan Fischer’s driving bass and Mikey Uptmore’s deep-seated drums.
Interpreting someone else’s creation is a daunting task for any musician. Although “Wet Dream” did not include Jackson’s mesmerizing guitar solos, it does encompass his virtuoso persona. His take on the song pays homage and keeps the song true to its original, sexual theme. Be sure to listen to the track on Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube.
