Video Premiere: “Fire” by art folk rockers Roger!

The art-folk band Roger! based out of San Diego is the brainchild of Ernie Garcia who’s played with El Vex (The Mexican Elvis), Kristian Hoffman, and Javier Escovedo. The Cosmic Clash is happy to premiere their new music video “Fire”. The song is off of their upcoming album Patterns set to release on November 18 on Slow Start Records.

The LP was recorded at Foxtail Studios and was mixed and mastered by Alan Sanderson whose portfolio includes Counting Crows and Fiona Apple. The song itself is reminiscent of bands such as Lemonheads, or R.E.M. It incorporates the simplistic power-pop that defined the early 90’s alternative rock sound. The music video resembles a fantasy movie with characters resembling those of the movie Labyrinth but with a darker twist.

The story begins with a woman who is summoning a creature from another world using witchcraft and incantations. She is able to contact the troll-like creature and are able to view each other through a mirror. Once the creature crosses over into our reality the woman and troll meet each other at a park to conjure up an apocalyptic end to earth. The music video is a great take on fantasy fitting the music and lyrics to the song.

Roger! band leader Garcia talks a bit about the recording of the album and the making of the music video, “Recording this album was a fun, relaxed process. It has been the most collaborative one we’ve made thus far. I think the band is at a point where chemistry and communication are great. Also, we have the luxury of a home studio, so there was no rush whatsoever. We’re very proud of it. “Fire” is my favorite song on the record. It’s a fun, concise pop-rock tune that was written in about 30 minutes. It’s one of those tunes that just seem to fall right out of the sky onto your lap. The video was done by Hector Gallardo at Subharmonic City Productions, based in my hometown of El Paso. He did a great job interpreting the lyrics visually.”
