Interview: LA Witch talks to Mike Cosmic at Parish’s My Oh My Bar
On August 17, LA Witch returned to Austin performing at the Parish’s new location in east Austin. LA Witch was at the tail end of their US tour that started July 27 in Salt Lake City, Utah’s Urban Lounge and ended on August 19 at Tucson’s Club Congress.
The show on Wednesday presented by The Cosmic Clash and Resound Presents was nothing short of phenomenal. Belting out their garage-psych-infused rock, LA. Witch owned the stage at the new Parish. Their mesmerizing stage presence kept the audience hypnotized, under the spell of their incredible music. Set list highlights included tracks, “Fire Starter,” “Sexorexia,” and “Gen-Z.”
All three members, Los Angeles natives, Sadie Sanchez and Irita Pai and Ellie English are badass musicians who know how to deliver a superlative live performance after years of non-stop touring. The dream-pop element to their sound is what sets apart this dark, introspective act. LA Witch has a sound that acknowledges their debt to Iggy and the Stooges as much as Black Sabbath and Los Angeles punk icons, X. Not bad company for any indie band.
Opening acts, Austin natives, Gus Baldwin and Blushing lit the party up right, setting the proper indie rock tone for the night. Mike Cosmic caught up with the ladies in the club’s backroom, My Oh My bar prior to their sound check, to discuss their current tour, latest album, and Mike Cosmic’s favorite LA Witch track “I Wanna Lose”. Check out the video interview below to hear about one of their craziest tour moments.
Fans can catch LA Witch live at The Chapel in San Francisco September 10 and at Desert Daze in Indio, CA September 30-October 2. Check their tour schedule for more upcoming shows.
