New Music: Darkbird Release New Single “Crimes”
Austin indie rockers “Darkbird” just released their new single “Crimes.” The song has a retro feel to it as if singer Kelly Barnes had been transported back to the mid 1980s to write a song. It also highlights Barnes’ strong vocal performance over a classic sounding new wave rock track. The band plans to drop this an successive singles, ending up with a new EP on the other end of those single releases.
The band thinks the indie-pop song sounds like something that might have been on the “Breakfast Club” soundtrack and they’re not wrong. We could see Molly Ringwald dancing to this tune while she considers dating the socially unacceptable character Bender played by Judd Nelson in the film. They’re not wrong. It does have that feel and it feel good too. We’re looking forward to hearing the remaining singles that are forthcoming. Darkbird will be celebrating the release of the new single on February 15th at Stay Gold.
Founding members, Barnes (vocals) and Brian Cole (guitar) met on Craigslist in search of their musical dreams while trying to move past some of life’s unending trials. Kelly left Los Angeles after her marriage ended while Brian left New York City after a tragic house fire. Both ended up in Austin searching for a new start. Drawing from their past experiences helped pave the way for their powerful live performances and most importantly, some fantastic music!
